Photon: Export Your Photos From iPhoto to Your Blog
Photon is a plugin for iPhoto that acts as a bridge between iPhoto and your weblog, allowing you to easily share your iPhoto library with everyone. Photon utilizes the MovableType API, so any blogging software that does a good job of supporting the API will work well with Photon. However, it should be noted here that I only test Photon against the most recent release of Wordpress.
Download Photon (280K)
Installation instructions
- Make sure the iPhoto application is not running. If it is, quit the application.
- Unpack the contents of Photon.zip. It should contain a folder called ”Photon.iPhotoExporter’.
- Find your iPhoto application. It is likely in the “/Applications/” directory. Control-click on iPhoto and select Show Package Contents.
- Open the Contents folder, then open the PlugIns folder.
- Copy the ”Photon.iPhotoExporter’ folder you downloaded into the PlugIns folder.
- Open up iPhoto, and go to File -> Export. If Weblog is one of the export options, Photon was installed successfully.
A brief history of Photon
Photon was originally created by a couple of programmers who called themselves Daikini Software. A little while ago, Daikini stopped updating the plugin, and eventually released the source code for anyone to use. The plugin hasn't seen any updating since then.
All of the programming was done in the dark ages, a strange time when Intel Macs and Universal Binaries were not yet a reality. As such, the old release of Photon isn't compatible with iPhoto when run on a Mactel.
This release brings Photon up to date as a Universal Binary, with a few minor bug releases thrown in for good measure.
